Jelani “Comp” Mitchell: Team Manager/Head Coach

Comp is in his fourth season as head coach of Jazz Gaming. The first head coach in Jazz Gaming history, Comp guides the club in all aspects of team operations throughout the fifth season of the NBA 2K League. His role includes creating and executing strategy, scouting opponents, drawing up plays and developing talent.

Mitchell was named the 2020 NBA 2K League Coach of the Year. In his second season with Jazz Gaming, “Comp” guided the team to a 14-2 (.875) regular season record, its best in franchise history, and earned the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. “Comp” was selected in a vote by players, coaches, team managers and media.

Mitchell has been at the helm as Jazz Gaming has posted a regular season record of 32-12 over the last two season, good for the second highest winning percentage (.727) in the NBA 2K League during that stretch. The team has earned back-to-back playoff spots and made its first appearance in the NBA 2K League Championship last season.

Comp, who was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., has helped connect competitive NBA 2K players for Pro-Am games online through his Twitter handle, @2kCompGames, which averages 100,000 visitors each month. Through social media, Comp has created a platform for unknown players to join the competitive scene and an outlet to promote the NBA 2K community and its personalities.

A graduate of St. John’s University with a degree in legal studies, Mitchell volunteered with AmeriCorps for a year as an afterschool instructor and has worked closely with children at the I Have A Dream Foundation in East Harlem.
