In an incredibly close contest, Jazz Gaming overcame Raptors Uprising GC in a 79-76 overtime win on Saturday afternoon.
After both teams opened the game by missing shot after shot in the opening minute, Raptors Uprising (0-3) were first to stabilize and took an early lead. Using crisp passes and impressive ball movement, Raptors found plenty of open space all across the floor, especially in the paint where they made a living. The main recipient of this strategy was Kenny, who put on a performance for the ages in the first half. He had 12 points in the first quarter and ended the half with a game-leading 18 points. Once the second half got underway, however, Raptors Uprising were singing a very different tune.
That melody came from their shots clanging off the rim as Jazz Gaming (2-1) locked down on the defensive end and forced Raptors Uprising to take subpar looks with regularity in the half. Jazz Gaming went on an incredible 15-5 run to open the half, which completely stalled any momentum that the Raptors had in the first half. Jazz Gaming kept on pushing and went into the decisive quarter locked in a 47-47 tie.
All throughout the final quarter, the teams jockeyed for position, knocking down big shot after big shot to keep things locked into a stalemate. For Jazz Gaming, it was the one-two punch of center MrSlaughter01 and point guard Yeah I Compete, who combined for 50 points, that pushed the team over the hump. Compete hit some big shots down the stretch that put Jazz Gaming up three points with under 10 seconds left in the game. While Kenny had gone cold for most of the second half, he showed up when it counted with a cold-blooded triple to send the game into overtime.
Unfortunately for Raptors Uprising, however, Jazz Gaming proved too much for them to handle in the extra period. They desperately tried to shoot their way to a victory from beyond the arc, finishing 12-of-27 from downtown, but Jazz Gaming kept calm and collected with consistent buckets to lock up the win.
