Jazz Gaming will make the No. 10 overall selection in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft as determined by the draft lottery on October 4 at the NBA office in New York City.
Club Protects Lotty, Ria and Yeah I Compete for Expansion Draft
The draft lottery, which decided the order of selection for the 13 lottery teams, consisted of the teams that did not make the playoffs in Season 2 of the NBA 2K League. Jazz Gaming, which won the draft lottery last season, owned a 5.5 percent chance of securing the first overall pick in today’s draft lottery.
The lottery was conducted by drawing ping-pong balls in random order from the official ball machine that is used for the NBA Draft Lottery.
Two expansion teams will join the NBA 2K League for the 2020 season, bringing the total number of teams competing in the league’s third season to 23. The two new teams are Hornets Venom GT (Charlotte Hornets affiliate) and a club representing Gen.G, the global esports organization connecting the best gamers in the U.S. and Asia, which will launch a team from Shanghai.
The Shanghai franchise will be the centerpiece of a long-term strategic relationship between the NBA 2K League and Gen.G to expand the global footprint of the first official esports league operated by a U.S. professional sports league.
Jazz Gaming has protected Lytel “Lotty” Martin, 2019 No. 1 overall selection Spencer “Ria” Wyman and Shaka “Yeah I Compete” Browne from being selected in the NBA 2K League Expansion Draft on Oct. 18. The trio will return to Utah for the 2020 NBA 2K League season.
In 2019, Jazz Gaming posted an improvement in winning percentage under the leadership of first-year Head Coach Jelani “Comp” Mitchell. The team concluded its second season in the NBA 2K League with an 8-8 (.500) regular season record, a final four finish at THE TURN powered by AT&T and more than 120 hours dedicated to community outreach events.
Additional details about the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft will be announced at a later date.
