Jazz Gaming Opens Season with THE TIPOFF

$160,000 on the Line as 23 Teams Compete for First Banner of Season 4

 

SALT LAKE CITY (May 17, 2021) – Jazz Gaming, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, opens its 2021 season with THE TIPOFF powered by AT&T. All 23 NBA 2K League teams are vying for a total prize pool of $160,000.

Jazz Gaming will play four consecutive games on May 20 beginning at 4 p.m. (MT) with home and away remote matchups against Blazer5 Gaming and Mavs Gaming in group play. Tournament quarterfinals will be held on May 21 with the semifinals and finals on May 22. Here is the link to THE TIPOFF FACT SHEET.

Jazz Gaming plays remotely from the Zions Bank Jazz Gaming Center on Level 5 of Vivint Arena. Games will be simulcast live on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels as well as Jazz Gaming’s Twitch channel.

THE TIPOFF is the first of three in-season tournaments (along with THE TURN and THE TICKET) in which teams compete for banners as part of THE BANNER CHAIN powered by AT&T. Jazz Gaming finished in the top four of both in-season tournaments and the league playoffs last year.

Jazz Gaming, led by NBA 2K League Coach of the Year Jelani “Comp” Mitchell, returns five of six players from a squad that posted a franchise-best 14-2 record and finished in second place during the 2020 regular season.

The returning players are Brent “Lord Beezus” Aasgaard, Shaka “Compete” Browne, Kimanni “Splashy” Ingram, Spencer “Ria” Wyman and Freddy “GetOnMyLevel” Whelan. His identical twin brother Alex “Expose” Whelan was the final addition to the roster acquired in a draft night trade.

After THE TIPOFF tournament, regular season play, featuring Eastern and Western Conferences for the first time, begins Wednesday, May 26 for Jazz Gaming against Blazer5 Gaming. The 14 regular-season matchups will be played in a two-game format, with each game counting in the overall season standings.
