The 2020 Jazz Gaming Playoffs presented by America First Credit Union will begin on Friday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. (MT) in the quarterfinals with a three-game series against the winner of the first-round matchup between Mavs Gaming (Dallas Mavericks affiliate) and Blazer5 Gaming (Portland Trail Blazers affiliate).
Jazz Gaming, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, owns the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Friday’s match will mark Jazz Gaming’s first-ever postseason appearance in the franchise’s three-year history.
The three-game quarterfinals series on Friday will be part of the NBA 2K League’s broadcast on ESPN2. Contests will also be streamed live on ESPN’s digital platforms, as well as the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube channels.
The semifinals matchups will be played on Saturday, Aug. 22, and the NBA 2K League Finals will take place on Friday, Aug. 28.
Jazz Gaming secured a first-round bye courtesy of its 14-2 (.875) record in the 2020 regular season. The club’s 14 wins are its most in a single season in franchise history. Utah also earned a final four finish in both of its in-season tournament appearances.
“Our entire organization has been locked in from the moment we arrived in Utah, and we are proud of what we accomplished together this season, on and off the court,” said Jazz Gaming Head Coach Jelani “Comp” Mitchell. “We know there’s more work to do, and we’re looking forward to the challenge and excitement of postseason NBA 2K League basketball.”
Center Spencer “Ria” Wyman, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2019 NBA 2K League Draft, was named a finalist for Season 3 Most Valuable Player. “Ria” averaged a double-double with 14.9 points and 13.9 rebounds (fourth-best in the NBA 2K League) to go with 2.6 blocks (ninth) per game. The second-year pro shot 73 percent from the field, third-best in the NBA 2K League in field goal shooting.
The team will compete remotely from the Jazz Gaming Lounge powered by Maverik on Level 5 of Vivint Arena. The first round, quarterfinals and semifinals of the Playoffs will be played in a best-of-three format. The NBA 2K League Finals delivered by DoorDash will be a best-of-five format.
The 10 playoff teams will compete for a total prize pool of $920,000, with the NBA 2K League champions receiving $420,000 from that pool. The remaining $500,000 will be distributed among the teams that qualified for the 2020 Playoffs (second place – $150,000, third and fourth place – $75,000, fifth through eighth place – $35,000, ninth and tenth place – $30,000).
